• How do the levels work?

Our group lesson curriculum focuses on specific skills in each level designed to build on each other. The result is a flexible program that allows your swimmer to progress at their own pace and advance to the next level as soon as they are ready.

  • Does my child’s age affect which level to register them in?

Our group lesson programs offer lessons for children 6 months - 12 years old.

    • Infant Water Safety 6 - 18 months
    • Tot Water Safety 18 - 36 months
    • Group Lessons - 3 - 12 years

We can accommodate the range of ages in each level in group lessons. Swimmers are placed by skill.

Private lessons are available for swimmers 13 and over.

  • Parent/Guardian Info

    • Parents and guardians are not allowed on deck during programming.
    • Parents and guardians are offered benches in the viewing hallway during programming.
    • The only group programs that parents are in the water for are Infant Water Safety and Tot Water Safety.
    • Instructors will not teach a swimmer under 3 years of age without a parent or guardian present.

  • What skills are in the levels?

We have a complete list of skills for each level HERE!

  • How will I know when my child is ready to move up a level?

We will communicate to the swimmer when they've mastered every skill in their level and are ready to move up. They will ring the bell and the next lesson we'll direct them to their new level!  We will attach an evaluation to their Captyn profile as they progress. At the end of the month, if they have not moved up, an evaluation will be sent.

  • My child missed or will be missing a lesson is there a make-up lesson?

If your child misses any lessons due to illness, vacation, other commitments, etc. we do not offer make-up lessons.

  • What is your swimmer to instructor ratio?

We maintain a low ratio to ensure safety and quality in our program. Our ratios are no more than 4:1 swimmers to instructor and are frequently less than that, especially with our safety levels.

  • Who are your instructors?

We have a blended staff of amazing people in the Rochester community.

Some are Rochester Swim Club swimmers! They work hard to balance their own practices, school work, and lessons so they can positively impact new generations of swimmers.  Others are adults that have a passion for swimming, teaching children, and giving back to their community.

  • This sounds great! - How do I register?

  • Lessons were canceled, is a make-up lesson offered?

    • Children ages 5 and older need to use appropriate locker rooms.
    • There is no hallway or deck changing (changing into or out of a swimsuit) allowed.

The locker rooms are shared with the swim team, divers and others. Please be respectful of everyone and do not leave anything in the locker rooms. You are responsible for any items you bring into the facility.

  • What happens when my swimmer completes Level 8?

You will be contacted when your swimmer is identified as a graduate for the end of that session.

Prep Squad is the recommended next step.

Prep Squad is a transitional group that helps swimmers bridge from lessons to the Rochester Swim Club.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend 2 practices a week and usually offered Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Practices are 45 minutes long and the session typically runs 6 weeks. Swimmers will learn more advanced stroke work as well as important skills and drills to be successful swim team swimmers or lifelong lap swimmers.

Rochester Diving Team offers both beginning and advanced training in diving.  Registration is monthly with practices 2-3 times per week, depending on the level of diver.
